Three simple steps

Use PII Purge in Claude.

  1. Add the connection

    Open Customize → Connectors in Claude. Choose + Add → Add custom connector, name it PII Purge and paste this server URL.

  2. Sign in to PII Purge

    Continue through Claude's setup, choose Sign in now and follow the browser sign-in. Use the PII Purge account where you added your card. No API key is needed.

  3. Try a redaction

    In a conversation, open + → Connectors and enable PII Purge. Try this fictional example, then review the result.

With Claude Code installed, run these commands in your terminal. The connection will be available across your projects.

Next, sign in with your PII Purge account:

Start Claude Code with claude, then try the example above or ask: “Use PII Purge to redact the personal data in cv.pdf.”

For a local file, PII Purge returns an upload command for your client to run. Approve it to send the file directly and save the redacted copy beside the original. This requires curl and a POSIX shell, such as bash, zsh or Git Bash.

A few things to know.

Can I use a PDF?

Yes, if it has selectable text and is within 50 pages and 25 MB. Your assistant must be able to send the file content or a publicly reachable HTTPS download link. Attaching a PDF to a chat doesn't always make it available to a connected tool.

File downloads depend on your assistant. You can also redact the PDF on this website. For a test document, use our fictional sample CV.

It connected, but asks me to add a card.

Open your account setup and finish adding a card. Then return to your assistant and try again with the same account. The website's free daily allowance doesn't apply to connected AI tools.

How is my content handled?

PII Purge processes the content your assistant sends, then discards it. Your assistant provider has its own rules for chats, attachments and results. Redacting a copy doesn't erase anything already shared in a conversation. Read about privacy and redaction.

Can I connect another AI tool?

Use the same server URL in a client that supports remote MCP over HTTP and browser sign-in. MCP is the connection that lets your assistant use PII Purge. Setup and file support vary by client. See the technical reference.

Text submissions can be up to 1 MB. Each successful redaction counts once; for a local file, that is the completed upload. Always review the result before sharing it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account and a card?

Yes. Redacting through an AI assistant requires a PII Purge account with a card added. You can connect before adding a card, but redaction calls will ask you to finish setup. The free daily allowance is available on the website, not through MCP.

Do I need an API key to connect Claude?

No. Claude connects using OAuth: sign in with your PII Purge account and authorise the connection. Compatible developer clients can use an API key instead.

How are AI assistant redactions billed?

Your account includes 50 successful redactions per Stripe billing period, shared by the website, API and connected AI assistants. Additional usage is billed monthly at the published rates. Your Stripe billing period may differ from a calendar month.

What can I redact through an AI assistant?

Redact text up to 1 MB per request, or PDFs with selectable text up to 50 pages and 25 MB. Scanned and image-only PDFs are not supported; PII Purge does not run OCR on uploads. Review the redacted result before sharing it.

Can I redact any file attached to a chat?

The assistant must be able to provide the file's contents or a publicly reachable HTTPS download URL to PII Purge. Attaching a file to a chat does not automatically send it to the redaction tool. File access and the way results are displayed depend on your AI client. In Claude Code, you can name a file on your computer instead: it's uploaded directly to PII Purge and the redacted copy is saved next to it.

How is my data handled when I use an AI assistant?

PII Purge processes submitted text and documents in memory without retaining their content or using it for training. Your AI assistant provider handles the chat, attachments and tool results under its own policies and settings. Review those policies before sending personal information.
