What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage and tracking pixels. This policy covers all of them.
The cookies we use
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
pii_purge_signin | Protects the sign-in flow by checking that the authentication response matches the request you started. Scoped to sign-in routes. | Strictly necessary, first party | 10 minutes, or until the sign-in response is handled |
pii_purge_session | Keeps you signed in to your account and protects your session. Set only when you sign in. | Strictly necessary, first party | Until you sign out, or 7 days |
The free redaction tool doesn't set cookies or store anything in your browser. Documents and results stay in the page's memory and are gone when you close it.
Strictly necessary cookies don't need consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), because the service can't work without them. If we ever add cookies that do need consent, such as analytics, we'll ask first and update this policy.
Third-party pages
The free tool uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a bot, is redacting. It runs in a frame from challenges.cloudflare.com, doesn't track you, and only shows anything if it needs you to click. Your document never goes to it.
When you sign in, you may be taken to pages run by WorkOS, Google, Microsoft or GitHub. When you add a card, you're taken to Stripe Checkout. Those services set their own cookies under their own policies, for example to prevent fraud. They don't set cookies on PII Purge pages.
Controlling cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. If you block these cookies, you can still use the free tool, but you won't be able to sign in.
